Making a QR code variable allows your end users to easily update the URL linked to the QR code. Follow these steps to create a QR code variable that can be customized by users within a Tempo smart template.
Before creating a QR code variable, ensure you have a barcode set up in your document. If you haven't done this yet, refer to this article on Creating a QR Code to set up your barcode.
Within your CHILI document, navigate to the Variable Data tab. This is where you'll define the variables that your end users can modify.
To create the QR Code Variable, click the Add Variable button.
Name the variable and set the Variable Type to Short Text. This allows users to enter a URL or any short text value.
Now it's time to link the variable to the barcode. Return to the Barcode tab where you set up your QR code.
Look for the Variable dropdown associated with your QR code. Select the QR code variable you just created.
After applying the variable, you may see a notification stating that there is no input data. To set default or placeholder data, navigate to the Variables tab on the left panel.
In the QR code variable field, add a placeholder URL. Your end user can update this URL once they access the template in Tempo.
